id: 38442 - Text: I don't have an answer but I will say that the idolization-devaluation phenomena in BPD is not a joke. I've done clinical interviews with BPD patients and they will quite literally choose certain people to regard (and refer to) as all-around perfect angels, and others to regard as the devil itself. Not saying of course that the abuse didn't happen and that she is demonizing her mother and stepfather for no reason, in fact I'm sure the abuse did happen, but she could be idolizing her father more than he deserves. (Then again, the US family court system will bend over backwards to make sure that a child stays with their mother, even if said mother is completely unfit.)
BPD can be almost as close to "insane" as schizophrenia is, a lot of the time. They can be, and often are purely unhinged, which is also why I dislike this pop culture notion that dating a woman with BPD is this exhilarating up-and-down but-worth-it-for-the-sex experience, which is also the same notion Mark so inappropriately referred to ("a lot of guys' dream"), I think. It's such a fucked-up way of thinking to use these women as your personal emotional and sexual rollercoaster because "normal" bores you because you're also probably fucked up, just to a lesser extent. An extent you could easily work on, whereas BPD is often for life and caused by traumas that are not so easily worked through.
