It took a few before I sensed something I didn’t like, but I’m still entertained by them. Certain ones. I’m not happy about his Appalachia phase because I live and love here now. A point worth making might be that I’ve had a career listening to people with mental illnesses and addiction who were inmates and prostitutes and victims of abuse or abusers themselves and I know many of them would have done this for $50 or whatever he pays. It was part of my job to help them understand that their histories, experiences and stories are not who they are - that I didn’t need all the details in order to help them, but it seemed they defined themselves by this one part of who they are. I always tried to move past the stories quickly because there was so much else to talk about.
I mean no disrespect to any of these people- and certainly not Luna- but I think that these are meant purely for entertainment - and they are entertaining. I don’t know how I feel about that, but I do believe that the man who makes these is in the entertainment business and that this is the only service he’s providing.
I sure don’t mean to challenge or argue with you. It’s my observation/opinion, but it’s from a place of many years of experience, if that’s worth anything to you.
I usually try to refrain from commenting on anything controversial, but I still believe the guy was thinking about the entertainment value of her trauma. I’ll bet these videos are probably being out to good use by educators though. I’m just working it out in my head, Deanna. No harm intended, though I am being judgmental of the guy who creates these. I initially reserved my judgement and watched many of them - this is the one that convinced me. Especially at the end where she seems to think she’s finished and he presses her to continue. There are very few people I have negative feelings about, but it was this video and the way it ends that convinced me of what I fought against suspecting. Again, I work with the population and I’ve seen the exploitation. A LOT of people don’t notice it. I don’t really care if I’m right, and won’t return your YouTube insults, and fact is, I’d rather be wrong. So I concede. Now bring some more YouTube comments. I usually just read the bickering for amusement and here I am a party to it. Believe me, there are those who agree with me. Google a little. Again, I hope we’re all wrong.
