And this is at the very hands of those who should protect and care for them. Is it any surprise that many of these children turn to drugs, alcohol, prostitution and porn? Many don’t graduate from high school and have limited options and are trafficked by pimps or “boyfriends.” Runaways statistically are likely to be approached by a “groomer” within 24 hours of homelessness. As a Forensic Nurse Examiner and Domestic Abuse RN I took care of so many damaged people who never really got a break. One of the worst cases involved a prostitute I took care of after her 7th rape in less than a year. When she was 6 she was abused by a priest, told her parents and was beaten for lying. Turns out the pervert had molested almost every child in the community. The community was listed in the credits of the movie “Spotlight”, a film detailing just how many young boys and girls were molested in the Boston area by Catholic priests, all while the church and some people in power knew about the abuse and did nothing. Many pedophiles were just relocated to reservations where they continued their abuse. It makes me angry every time I think of how much these kids experienced and how their trauma lives on in PTSD,

How can they devalue themselves like that? Well, listen to their stories. Most of them didn't have parents. Most of them have tremendous histories of abuse and neglect. Most of them had to fend for themselves as a teenager (or even as a young child) and find ways to take care of themselves, without even having a model of what being taken care of is. For others, this life was modeled to them and it's all they know.
Let's stop judging men and women for doing things that was a way for them to survive in this cruel world. If there's nothing wrong with sex, then there's nothing wrong with having sex to make money. Instead, let's blame and judge the system that allowed children and teenagers to be homeless and parent-less. Let's judge our society for making them outcasts and pushing them towards industries that are unhealthy. Let's have a little respect for people that have lived through fucked up shit as a child/teen/adult and are still out there working, surviving and making a life for themselves. Now that's worthy of respect.

These young adolescent females that suffer traumatic sexual encounters also seem very likely to have a multitude of sexual parters and an involvement with abusive men that ultimately result in a cycle of failed relationships. It is really sad and quite perplexing.
