Hundreds of sex workers are abused by the bar owners (a good majority are owned by 1 of 2 Muslim guys and just shy of 8 others are owned by the Thai Royal Police where they launder drug money, prostitution proceeds and other corrupt practices. The pumps are the club owners and secondarily, the mama sans of each club by enforcing the owners monetary interests.
How do I know? I worked for the last 2 democratically elected Prime Ministers, Thai Police/DSI and many military officials and Parliament members.
I only watched this one interview but things in Thailand are not even close to 15% as rosy as these 2 ladyboys indicated. I think what is sad, in my opinion anyway, is that the vast majority if not all of them are transitioning with the idea in mind of sex work. I haven't seen too many thai ladybodys that transitioned younger because they wanted to be a real estate agent or a banker or something. Its always with the idea in mind of getting into sex work, and making that money. Considering their culture puts a huge emphasis on the young supporting the old, it would make sense if the most money to be made is in sex work for their family to support them doing it: they want the pay off.
