We had fun and it was cool. In the nineties, they retired there. It was perfect for them, they lived on a golf course in a gated community and went to the local casino a lot. Their friends from across the years came every year to stay at their place and visit. They had great fun showing them the town. They were smokers/drinkers and loved to socialize with their friends. After my dad passed, my mom was there alone so I moved to be nearby. She sold her house and moved into a retirement center. This is a city based upon gambling, alcohol, and the sex industry with everything in between. When I moved there, the housing market collapsed and I ended up working in mini-marts. It was dangerous and the streets of Vegas are not so glamorous. I lived in crappy neighborhoods along the strip, and coming into work would hear things like "They found another body in the dumpster" or "Dude got shot in the face on the corner last night.": I learned you could only believe half of what you hear and not repeat any of it. The neighborhood behind the Stratosphere is called Naked City because all the show girls lived there back in the day (50s-60s). They would sunbath topless by the pools in the apartments. Now all the pools are filled in, and it is the place where taxis drop guys off to get drugs or girls. It overlaps between Black gangs and Hispanic gangs so you had to keep on your toes. I saw girls who were "owned" by a gang once they got into debt for drugs and had to work it off. It was ugly. I left after my mom passed on and I settled her accounts.
