I think its a good thing if it helps people to get over an addiction if they cannot do it because they don't belive in themself. I'm not even against a god or a supernatural beeing. But I dont belive in a book that was written 1900 years ago after the stories were told for 100 years. When people take that book literal and cherrypick the parts they want to belive in. It gets dangerous when people start to judge others according certain standards in this book. If you belive in a god and pray to him it can boost your morale. If you get the feeling that you are not alone and there is someone that cares. I dont like when there are hypocrites that talk against pre-marriage sex but were pregnant with 17 or had to marry as fast as possible to make the child legitimate. Or priests that rant against homosexuality but rape boys or have orgies in priestschool. The bible, koran or tora are instruments. They give power, money and rights to certain people. I was shocked when I saw the wealth of churches in very poor parts of the world. For example the golden church in salvador de bahia. Tons of gold there and the people are very poor. Such examples show how the bible is an instrument of power and money. The people are afraid that they go to hell. Thats why they give money.
