id: 1320987 - Text: Yes, I’ve been doing this this for over ten years now and I’ve learned so much. In regards to helping these people (not enabling them), the only way these people will ever get clean is if they’re truly motivated themselves. We can all see what they need and know how they can change course, but unless they want it more than we do nothing will ever happen. All the good intentions in the world are quickly turned into enabling by a drug addict, I’ve learned. Words mean nothing. Action is everything. Watching my videos can make us all want to help them, but honestly, if the addict isn’t 100% ready and motivated then no one can make them do the very difficult work required. I know it’s difficult to watch these for some viewers, but my intention is to prevent these stories from repeating themselves in our future generations. If helping each person I interview were my goal I’d have given up after ten interviews. I’ve now done over 2000 and I’ve learned that if an addict isn’t ready I can’t make them do what’s required. That said, I do much too much helping them however I can with things like rent, new tents, blankets, food, clothing, etc.. I make their day a little easier and safer in hope that one day they find the motivation to do the work to change their lives. I’ve given about $200K to these people while I shoot these video to help us all see what’s broken in our country. Hopefully, we can learn and change the way we raise our children so these stories are not so common.
