Or are struggling with severe mental health issues or something of that nature. It's easy to be on the outside and sit there and say something along the lines of "well they need to make better choices, work hard, and pull themselves up by their bootstraps" but consider that these people's lives are deeply complex and traumatic and instead try to accept that you aren't them and you don't know.
