I can relate to the mall part. While I wasn't that young, I was 17- but I wasn't being fast or anything like that. I was homeless and working at a silver jewelry retailer stand in the mall since it was the only job I could get (late 90's, before e-verify) without an I.D. I thought he was my boyfriend too... And I was never pimped out, or prostituted, though- I'm fairly certain that was the next step. He would test meth with me, then wait till I was coming down, and sexually assault me, and these were my first experiences with sex that I can remember.
I'm very grateful to be completely drug free for MANY years, I can't imagine what my life would be like if I were still dealing with SS/DD 25yrs later. I would probably have died, and even from what I do remember from being involved with sex work in other ways (adult cabaret, etc)...
I'm still surprised I didn't end up prematurely deceased, sometimes I still think of the other women I danced with who did not survive, and it's a heavy realization of the myriad forms of danger to women in particular.
